Vegans to be treated "Fairly"!!!

LENTIL-EATING vegans and teetotallers are to be protected against discrimination - just like gays and lesbians.
A new equality drive by Commons leader Harriet Harman will ensure that they are "treated fairly". Members of cults and new religions like Scientology will get similar protection under the Government's Equality Bill.

A code of conduct has been drawn up by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

This says the legislation should apply to vegans - such as Sir Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills - who refuse to eat or wear any animal products. A Commission spokesman said: "This is about someone for whom being vegan or vegetarian is central to who they are.

"Parliament makes the law, the courts interpret it and we offer factual guidance where necessary."

Meanwhile, the Government is on a collision course with company bosses over efforts to INCREASE the number of women in the boardroom.

Businesses would be forced to report on the progress they are making on improving "the gender balance" among their directors.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: "When more than half of graduates are women, it is completely unacceptable that some of our top 100 public companies have not a single woman on their boards.

"If we do not see a dramatic change in the composition of company boards in the future, we'll need to consider some serious action."

Ok so where is the protection for Meat Eaters from Vegans and Vegetarians alike with their harassment and tendency to bombard us with emails, websites, commercials, images and videos of dated, blatantly sensationalized and illegally recorded footage from slaughterhouses? Where is the protection for meat-eaters as they [Vegans and Vegetarians] stand outside restaurants protesting and the like while others are trying to join their meal? Where is the protection for meat-eaters whom are being harassed by these people as they enter and exit a restaurant that they are protesting? Where is the meat-eater's protection from their propaganda? Where is the protection of these people from groups like PETA whom deem it necessary to use explosives on testing labs, and pour blood or red paint on someone wearing fur?

I have seen more harassment of meat-eaters from both of these groups both online and offline, than I have of the opposite.

It seems like these people have went and got themselves protected from those THEY harassed from justified retaliation.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for EQUALITY, but I just don't think it is right that the harassers were the ones who felt the need to get protection from those they harassed. I am not saying that the discrimination doesn't exist, but from what I have seen both online and offline, it is they who are the aggressors. We can, and do respect their choice of not eating meat, and their reasons for doing so, however, it seems that THEY are the ones who cannot respect the fact that not everyone has, or will do so.

I think that it is stupid that they are now a protected group seeing as how, homosexuality is NOT a choice, unlike, say, being a vegan or vegetarian. As I said, I am all for equality, however, I don't think that this is what is going on here. I think that this is a means for Vegans and Vegetarians to use the legal system to their advantage. If they harass a meat-eater, then it is freedom of speech and the right to protest, etc.. but if the meat-eater they harassed, decides to retaliate, then it is considered discrimination, and it is grounds for legal protection as if the meat-eater was the aggressor all along.
